TWO CITIES ON THE RISE

No longer content to grow in the shadow of its sister city, North Little Rock is bursting with an anticipated excitement of recent, existing and planned developments.

You'll find joggers running during lunch breaks and after work across the Main Street Bridge from downtown Little Rock to North Little Rock's resurging historic district Argenta.  Visitors and locals enjoy views of the USS Razorback, the WWII submarine docked on the Arkansas River, from seats on the River Rail Trolley, which glides across tracks on the bridge.  The submarine will eventually be housed in a maritime museum located within walking distance of nearby Alltel Arena.  The recently built multipurpose center has been honored nationally for its successful management and record crowds as host to events such as national music tours and sporting events.  2006 will see The Rolling Stones perform and the return of the most well-attended tournaments in the country, the Southeastern Conference Women's Tournament.  2006 will also see the opening of the Sports Hall of Fame adjoining Alltel Arena.

A state-of-the-art baseball stadium is also currently planned for the downtown area. Condos are on the drawing board for Phase II of the baseball park.

Less than five minutes from downtown is Park Hill.  This well established neighborhood offers historic homes, large shade trees and a cozy atmosphere with views to the south of the Little Rock skyline, perfect for picturesque viewing.

North Hills Boulevard winds through the Lakewood developed subdivision that still enjoys new construction of contemporary homes around one of the many man-made lakes enjoyed by residents.  The Old Mill shown in the epic "Gone with the Wind" is located off North Hill Boulevard.

McCain Boulevard intersects North Hills leading to a bustling growing retail and dining corridor, featuring plentiful shopping and popular restaurant chains.  Commercial developments continue for more than a mile across to mainstays of suburbia - Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart Supercenter, Sam's Club and more.

Extensive expansion of Highway 67 to accommodate residential and commercial growth on the north corridor between North Little Rock and Cabot has eased much of the rush hour congestion.

There's no short supply of recreation in North Little Rock.  A prize pf the city and state is Burns Park located off Interstate 40 on the western edge of the city.  One of the largest parks in the country with more than 1,500 acres presents numerous options of all kinds of interest.  Manicured fields host regional soccer tournaments, as well as regional tournaments on its tennis courts.  Baseball fields are plentiful for young players of all ages and skill levels.  Cookouts are booked well in advance at covered pavilions throughout the park.  Lush hills provide hikers with healthy treks.
