MILITARY STRENGTH, HOMETOWN FEEL
Little Rock Air Force Base recently celebrated 50 years at home in Jacksonville. An unexpected reason to celebrate was the smooth transition the base made as its role expanded from military support to receptionist for international gifts of relief for Hurricane Katrina victims. Numerous flights from Europe, Africa and the Far East inundated the base as countries worldwide provided emergency supplies for evacuees and their hose states across America. And as in previous times of emergency, the base rose to the occasion.
While some might say that Jacksonville gets its identity from Little Rock Air Force Base, this city in north Pulaski County is about more than just military strength. It's also about the strength of community.
Among the amenities Jacksonville boasts is its proximity to many big city conveniences. Residents can reach North Little Rock's major shopping district in about 15 minutes and downtown Little Rock in about 20 minutes. A new bypass from Interstate 40 to Highway 67 North has shaved more minutes off the commute for hose headed west of Jacksonville.
The city also offers a large community center, numerous Little League sports leagues a new family aquatic center. Overall, Jacksonville provides a comfortable alternative for families, retirees and everyone in between, making it one of central Arkansas' most welcoming hometowns.
